Cary
Dowse has been teaching at Southland since the school opened in
1999 and is the head of the math department. She has a master's
degree from Valdosta State University in Middle Childhood Education
and 20 years of teaching experience. She is married to Scott and
they have 2 children, Chris (class of 2010) and Casey (class of
2012). |

Jae
Branch has taught math at Southland Christian School in grades
6, 9, 10, and 11 over the past five years. Jae was
born and raised in South Korea. She and her husband, David moved
to Valdosta, his home town, in 1998. She and David have one son,
David (SCS Class of 2016). Jae has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary
Math Education from Valdosta State University where she is currently
studying for a Master’s degree. She has also been serving as
Korean director for the Valdosta International Folk Fair for the
last four years. Jae states, “I love math; especially challenging
problems that make me think in depth! I’m enjoying teaching
at Southland Christian School. It is a great school.” |

Jennifer Hummel has served as a Science teacher at
Southland Christian School for seven years, and Science Department
Head for five of those
years. She has taught Science in the fifth through twelfth grades
for nine years. She and her husband Rob have lived in Valdosta for
eight years and have one daughter. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in both Biological Sciences and Science Education from North
Carolina State University. Jennifer says, “What a joy to work
where you get to teach children Science with a God-centered philosophy.” |

Linda Sparks, our high school English teacher, received her Bachelor
of Arts degree in English from Valdosta State in 1977. She taught
middle school for five years before marrying John Sparks in 1981
and becoming a full time mom. She and John have three grown children,
Jacob, Julie, and Stephen. Linda was a stay-at-home mom until 2000
when God called her back to full time teaching at Southland. She
loves literature and imparting that love to her students. Her passion
is to curl up with a good book and a great cup of coffee. Second
only to her love for God and fulfilling His will in her life, her
family is her number one priority. |

Amanda Sutton

Amanda
Sutton teaches middle and high school Social Studies at SCS. She
has been a teacher here for six years and currently serves as our
Social Studies and Foreign Languages department head. Amanda is
married to Kerry Sutton and they have 3 children: Mallory (SCS
Class of 2018), Monica (SCS Class of 2016), and Colby (SCS Class
of 2013). Amanda received her degree in Secondary Education, with
a Bachelor of Science in Education from Valdosta State University. |

Erin Whittle, our Spanish teacher is presently teaching
her first year at Southland Christian School. She also teaches Economics
and 5th grade History. Erin holds a Bachelor of Business Administration
degree in Economics with a minor in Spanish from Valdosta State University.
She has completed studies in London, England as well as Guadalajara,
Mexico. She is currently finishing her Foreign Language Education
certification. She is looking into pursuing masters and doctoral
degrees in Education Administration. |

Connie
Wells has served as an art teacher at Southland Christian School
for seven years and a department head for 3 of those years. She
has taught art for kindergarten through the twelfth grades. Connie
and her husband Dan have lived in Valdosta for many years. They
have two daughters: Katie (SCS Class of 2008) and Crista (SCS
Class of 2016). Connie holds Associate of Arts and Bachelor of
Fine Arts degrees from Valdosta State University. Connie states, “I
have a passion to see the arts thrive at SCS in all areas from
visual arts to drama to music.” |

John Sparks

John
Sparks is the head Mass Media instructor for Southland Christian
School. He is also the owner and operator of Stillwater
Creek Productions in Valdosta. He holds a Bachelor of
Science in Education and a Master’s degree in Education,
both from Valdosta State University. He and his wife Linda,
who
also teaches
at SCS, have lived in Valdosta for more than 30 years. They
have three grown children: Jacob, Julie, and Stephen.

Holly
Holbrook has served as our Athletic Director for two years. She
is the daughter of Wesley and JoNan Holbrook and a graduate of
Lanier County High School. Holly attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural
College on a softball scholarship where her team won the Junior
College State Tournament and secured a top ten standing on the
national level. At the conclusion of her time at ABAC, Holly
transferred to Valdosta State University where she is working
on her degree in Physical Education. She plans to pursue a Masters
degree in Sports Administration. Holly states, “I love
the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of teachers, parents,
and students everyday.” |
